Synton Mains Farm

Synton Mains Farm is well placed for visitors, as it’s close to the main A7 which meanders through the beautiful Border countryside. The village of Ashkirk is close by, which is conveniently on the bus route to other Border towns and run every hour.

Galashiels has a re-installed train station which allows easy access to Edinburgh, Glasgow and further.

The Farm is stocked with a thousand easy-care breeding ewes. Easy-care sheep shed their wool/hair themselves without the need for shearing. The wool is soon recycled by birds/wildlife that collect it for nest building.

We love the countryside, its fauna and flora and are continually trying to improve the farm and environment with new woodland planting as well as hedgerow planting.

The River Ale which runs through the farm has been fenced off for regeneration of trees etc. to benefit and encourage wildlife. Because of this we have already spotted kingfishers, dippers, herons, ducks, oyster catchers and the occasional otter.

We have roe deer, hares with their leverets, buzzards, sparrows and goss- hawks, lapwings, foxes, owls, woodpeckers, pheasants and partridge. Such an abundance of wildlife!

While staying at our cottages if time prevails, badger watching can be arranged.

We also love our resident peacocks. As they are quite beautiful and inquisitive I am sure they will pay you a visit during your stay. (They do not harm you).

Hens roam freely at Synton Mains therefore FREE organic eggs are available at certain times.

Hope you enjoy staying here as much as we love living here
